LCD monitors display a clearer picture, and are smaller and more energy efficient than older monitor styles. But they are also expensive and more fragile. Will LCD covers protect your investment?
Liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors have a number of advantages over the older cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors:
- Resolution While technically, CRT resolution (dpi) can match or surpass that of an LCD display, images appear blurred on CRT monitors because of the need to focus light beams. LCD screens do not rely on light projection from behind.
- Size One of the main complaints about CRT monitors over the years has been that they are space hogs. A monitor depth of 12 inches or more takes up valuable desk space. LCD monitors are slim, and much lighter and easier to move, if necessary.
- Price CRT monitors use older technology (that's been around for a hundred years!) and have been much cheaper than LCDs in the past. However, advances in production have recently brought down prices on LCD monitors. LCDs use less electricity, making them more efficient to run over time.
In a game room or other high-action area (or if your TV is exposed to the hazards of children), flat panel TVs can be covered by a rigid clear plastic sheet to protect them from flying objects.
For an LCD computer monitor that may need to be moved, vinyl computer covers will add dust protection when your computer is not being used, and products like the ShopShield LCD Cover can remain installed to keep your screen clean even while you use the computer.
